Network Engineering

Computer networks including networks and internet are now establishing a information backbone in scope and size from a few systems on LAN to international set up. Network engineering has addresses many aspects of developing, designing, maintaining and installing of different networks. Network engineer is responsible of undertaking these network functions. Dealing with network engineering of large network, there is need to perform other tasks like software writing, hardware installation and troubleshooting.
Network engineers and planners manage complex and changing networks. They are also responsible for the performance of up time of critical application and business services. In order to face these challenges, government and commercial clients are hiring the services of network engineers for better output. Network engineering provides you multiple benefits like

  • It accelerates new technology developments and services by predictive planning
  • It optimizes network performance through right sizing capacity and traffic engineering
  • It reduces the risk of misconfigurations and downtime via change of proactive impact analysis
  • It increase operational integrity and security measures with scheduled audits for the exposure of problems
  • It reacts to critical issues related to network using troubleshooting and real time visualizations

Network engineering is the refined process in which many steps are involved. In this article, I would like to give you brief overview of these steps.

Network planning: Network planners usually plan and provide predictive analysis of multi technology, multi vendor, and other network tasks for quality assurance and optimization of network capacity. It is performed for the outrages and changes existed in the network. It also keeps tracks of the performance of optical networks and tries to integrate for the design of multi-layer network design.

Configuration Auditing:

IT professionals and network administrators performs systematic and automated configurations, analysis, auditing, and up to date model analysis of network to diagnose policy violations, security gaps, device misconfigurations and inefficiencies.

Real-Time Visualization:

Network engineering provides real time visualization of the consolidating topology, network production, status and traffic information from several sources in a unified view with targeted dashboards of different key performance metrics.

Network diagramming

It creates automated and up to date diagram of Microsoft Visio network. After creating diagram of Microsoft Visio, it is combined with multiple physical and logical views of the network with detailed topology and configuration information.

There are some typical duties that are assigned to network engineer for the maintenance and performance of network. It includes maintenance of network servers, computer terminals, voice communication and data communications. He is responsible for recommending, researching a particular configuration of hardware or writing, customizing and selecting software code for reliable functionality of network. Network engineering is not a simple task in which you need to deal with maintenance of computers, main frames and other components of communication system like switches and routers. There is need to involve in maintaining and testing process on long term basis in network engineering. Large network also requires considerable documentation that is efficient function of network engineering.
