You first need to select a good location to install your router like a table or open space floor. If you have wireless router, you can re-position it where you like after installing. In the beginning, it is better to select a location where it is easy to work for you.
You need to plug in the electric power source of the router and turn it on by pushing power button.
Router connection to internet modem: Many network modems connect with Eathernet cable but USB connection are becoming very popular these days. Cable plugs the router to the internet with up link port. When router is connected to the cable, you must turn off the modem so that router recognizes it.
Connect router to computer: Router is the type of wireless model that you need to connect it to the computer with the internet cable. When you use network cable during router installation, you should ensure about the reliability of the equipment. You can also change wireless connection after completion of broadband router installation.
Router administration tool: When your computer is connected to the router, open web browser and enter address of router provided by network administration in it and hit return to the home page of the router. Many router use web address like “http://192.168.1.1”. You should consult your router documentation to know the exact address for your model. However, internet connection is not necessary for this step.
Router login: When you are in the home page of the router, it will ask you for an username and password that are provided by router documentation. You can change password for security issues but you should do it after completion of router installation to avoid complications.
For internet connection, enter internet connection information in the router configuration section. If you are using DSL internet, you should enter PPPOE username and password. You need to enter the static IP (including gateway and subnetmask) in the router configuration fields. If you face any problem regarding static IP address, you can request for it again.
When you used primary computer or older network router, your provider may update mac address of the router with the device of mac address that you were using.
If you are using wireless router, you should change the name of network that is called SSID. Router has default name that you can change if you desire.
Verification about network connection: You should verify that network connection is working between your router and computer. To check the status of internet, you must get confirmation about IP address from the router.
Verification about internet speed: Once your computer is connected to the internet after broadband router configuration installment, you need to browse some websites to verify about internet status.
Connecting additional computers to your router: When you want to connect one or more computer to wireless router, you should match the network name ie SSID to the router. In the last, you can configure additional features of network security to save your system from internet hackers.
