Introduction to Security+ Certification

IT security is an important subject for the IT professionals who design, deploy and manage the IT systems in an organization. Security+ Certification is a vendor neutral certification that is designed by Comptia and it deals with the information security systems. The Security+ certification is targeted towards the networking professionals that have the more than two years of experience in the computer networking and system administration. Comptia recommends that a candidate of the Security+ certification should have solid technical background and skills in the network administration before attempting the exam.

The exam is available in the English language only and it is presented in the multiple choice 100 questions that should be covered in the 90 minutes.

The minimum passing scores are 764. The certification validates the candidate’s knowledge of communication security, cryptography, infrastructure security and operational security.  Before attempting the exam it is important to have basic concepts of network devices such as routers, switches, modems and the security of these devices.  It is also important to have the basic concepts of the security topologies such as NAT, tunneling and VLANs. Security+ is a great certification for the people who want to enter in the field of information security.

Like the other certifications of Comptia, this certification never expires but the requirements are updated.  The test assesses the real-world skills of the candidates to ensure that they are ready to face any kind of network security related problems at any level.  Security+ exam provides the basis of the advanced network certifications such as MCSE, CCNA, CCIE, CISSP and SSCP.  The Security+ test deals in five different areas of security such as general security concepts, communication security, infrastructure security, basics of cryptography and operational/organization security.
