How To Install Windows Server 2008

Installing the Windows Server 2008 is very simply as installing the other versions of Windows operating system.  You need to meet the following hardware requirements before installing Windows 2008 Server.

  • Processor:  Minimum 1 GHz and recommend is 2 GHz or more for optimized performance.
  • Physical Memory (RAM):  Minimum 512 MB and recommended is 2GB or more.
  • Hard Disk:  At least 10-20 GB space.
  • Display and Peripherals: Super VGA with 800x600 or more resolution.
  • Drive:  DVD-ROM
 

Follow the below procedure to install the Windows Server 2008.

  • Start your computer and go to system’s setup and select “Select from CD-ROM” as your primary boot option.
  • Insert Windows Server 2008 CD into your CD or DVD drive.
  • The installation process will be started.
  • On the next step, select your installation language and other regional options and click next.
  • On the next screen press the Install now and begin the Installation process.
  • On the next screen, you will be prompted to enter the product key for activation.
  • If you don’t have the product key available, you can provide it after the installation completes.

 

 

On the next screen, select the edition of Windows Server 2008 from multiple options and check “I have selected the edition of the Windows that I have purchased”.

  • Read and accept the licensing terms and conditions and click next.
  • On the next screen, you will be asked that “which type of installation do you want”?
  • Select Custom Advance and click next.
  • In the next Window, you will be asked to choose that “Where do you want to Install Windows” select the first disk which is usually 0 and click next.
  • The installation process has now been started.  First the setup files will be copied from the DVD to the hard disk.  It usually takes one minute time.  Next the files will be extracted and it will take about 20-30 minutes.  After that time the operating system will be installed on your computer.  Next the core components of your server will be installed.
  • Once Windows finishes installing the operating system and all the core components your computer will be restarted automatically.
  • After restarted, you will be prompted at CTRL+ALT+DEL screen.
  • Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and click other users.
  • Next, type administrator as a login name, change the password and press Ok.  In the password change box, leave the current password blank and provide a complicated new password.
  • Finally, you reach at the desktop of your Windows Server 2008.
  • You will find an “Initial Server Configuration Page” after successfully logging on to your server.
  • Congratulations you’re done
