What is Intrusion Detection System

Intrusion Detection System or IDS detects the intrusions, security vulnerabilities and the malicious codes from a computer system or a computer network.  There are different types of the IDS i.e. Network based IDS, Protocol based IDS, Host based IDS and the Application Protocol based IDS.  IDS is a security solution for the enterprises and it can be implemented to block the hacker’s attacks and to protect your network from the internal and external threats.

IDS detect the access attempts by the unauthorized users and it provides the protective layer/barrier for your computer and network. It monitors the incoming and outgoing network traffics, note the suspicious activities and alarm the network administrators.

It is a bullet proof security strategy used the network administrators to protect their network resources.  IDS is responsible for the attacks and alert the system administrators.  IDS get access to the port, IP address, hub, switch or router to monitor the incoming and outgoing traffic.

They are placed at the strategic points in the computer networks and they are used to monitor the attempts to the secure shares, attempts to the confidential files, attempts attacks by using the local user accounts and monitor the administrative logon attempts after the office hours etc. IDS also provide the lot of other intrusion detections and prevention features.

Network-Based Intrusion Detection Solutions

Network Intrusion Prevention and Detection systems monitor the data and traffic between two hosts.  They intercept the suspicious data packets that travel through the wired or wireless TCP/IP based networks. Network-based IDS monitors the network segment or the whole network.

Juniper Networks Intrusion Prevention

Juniper provides the Intrusion Prevention System for small to big sized companies. It provides the security wall and protection against the Trojan horses, worms, malware, spyware and key loggers and ensures the uninterruptible security protection for your network resources. It stops the network applications attacks and minimizes the time to maintain and secure the network.

Juniper’s Network IDP provides the information on the Rogue servers and protects the operating systems. Juniper Network Intrusion Prevention system allows the routers to limit the bandwidth of the non essential network applications.

Fragroute/Fragrouter

It is a network based intrusion detection system that monitors the traffic that passes through the routers.

Abirnet Solution

SessionWall-3 2.1 is an easy to use and inexpensive tool for monitoring the single LAN segment.  It provides the GUI and it has session blocking and traffic filtering capabilities.

Internet Security solution

Internet Security Solution (ISS) provides the robust intrusion prevention and detection system. It provides the secure and distributed management through the Windows based graphical user interface. It provides the session recording and customized reporting features.
