Data once deleted visually is not deleted forever from your storage media. So it can be recovered any time but with a limitation that you have not formatted the disk or overwritten that part of the disk. Now to understand this phenomenon just consider that all the data written on the disk is indexed as 1 and a table of content or index is formed.
Now if a data is deleted by you then data is not deleted physically rather it is present as it is but its index value become 0 from 1. And the data becomes hidden from you. Now without being formatting the disk or overwriting we can recover it by again changing the index value or usually called as bit value from 0 to 1.
All the scenario discussed above seems to be a simple solution but it is not as simple as you do not have access to that index table directly. So to have access of that you need a third party software usually to recover that particular data or in simple words to make it visible. So for that purpose lots of third party software are available in the market having round about same features and working mechanisms. Some of them are:
- Get Data Back (Available in Evaluation and Registered form on the web for download)
- Easy Recovery (Available in Evaluation and Registered form on the web for download)
- Lost and Found (Available in Evaluation and Registered form on the web for download)
- Recover My Files (Available in Evaluation and Registered form on the web for download)
Above mentioned data recovery tools are almost have same functionality so to make you understand we start with Get Data Back recovery software. It has few steps and your data will be recovered. Those steps are:
- Run the .exe file of the software
- A list of partitions will appear on the screen
- Select a partition
- Against that partitions the list of logical drives will be displayed
- Select a logical drive from which you want to recover the data and click Next
- Select the option of either full scan or select the portion of disk to scan then click Next
- A scan will be started
- Time depends on the capacity of the disk.
- After the successful scan it shows the clusters of data
- Select any cluster and click next
- It shows the list of files click the file to recover if shown and click recover on the toolbar
- It will ask about destination to recover
- At last it will recover that file
- If not present in that cluster select different cluster and repeat same procedure.
- Finally the data will be recovered
Almost all the data recovering software uses the same technique with a slight operational difference.
Note: Disk or partitions should not be overwritten or formatted. Even then the data can be recovered but the chances are very rare.
