Introduction to VPN

VPN or Virtual Private Network is a type private network that is securely encrypted and connected via a secure communication tunnel over a public network such as internet.  With the rapid increase of the broadband services in all over the world, standard-based affordable and secure solutions are required and VPN technology helps the businesses to provide secure remote connectivity.  Virtual Private Network provides the alternative to the businesses to leasing a dedicated and expensive connection for connecting the one office with the other.

A VPN connects two private LANS, two remote computers, one remote computer and a local area network. The security procedures and technologies that maintain the security in the Virtual Private Network are IPSec (IP Security), PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol) and L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol).

VPN Security

The internet can be a dangerous place for your personal and company’s secret information if no proper security procedures are implemented.  When data travels from one computer to another via internet then it is at risk if not properly secured.  Encryption and Tunneling are the most important security features of the VPN.

Encryption encodes the data and makes it unreadable for the intruders and hackers.  Each computer that is involved in the encrypted data transfer is assigned a numerical value known as key.
